Department of game design at Uppsala University – Campus Gotland is the only Western institution invited by the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show.
– This is a recognition for our training and a valuable opportunity to establish further contacts. In Japan, you are interested in our focus on the substantive elements to complement their strong technology development said Steven Bachelder, professor of artistic creation of the Department of game design.
Tokyo Game Show taking place September 19 to 22. A very large number of exhibitors, mainly from Japan and its neighboring countries, and it is estimated 250 000 visitors. Sweden will have its own pavilion coordinated by the Swedish Institute. Department of game design will demonstrate research and education in the converging media and game design. Among other things, it will show three games developed by students: King of the thrill, Little Warlock and Fly or Die.
– The Swedish Game Awards earlier this year won the games created by our students three of the six categories. These games, we are taking with us to Japan and show our stand in the Swedish Pavilion, says Steven Bachelder.
One of the students who created one of the winning games will come to the Tokyo Game Show and present games. The group of students got to vote for who would get to go and they chose Simon Wulf is now the second year of the program Game design and graphics, which have helped to create the game of King of the Trill. Those students who remain on campus in Visby, Gotland will be able to communicate directly via the link with the delegation in Tokyo Thursday, Sept. 19 at 9-9.30 in room E 45. Media representatives are invited to participate and ask questions.
On Friday, September 20 arranges the department together with the Swedish Institute a seminar at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo on the theme Sweden and Japan – Collaboration in Game Education, Convergent Media and Industry.
