Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Red Sox Game 5: Live Score and ALCS Highlights - Bleacher Report

The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox battled in Game 5 of the ALCS as the Red Sox came out on top, 4-3. Boston now leads the series 3-2.

Final: Red Sox 4, Tigers 3

The series now returns to Boston where the Red Sox will have two chances to win it. But, they’ll have to get through Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander to do it.

It was a great game indicative of the series thus far. But it’s not over.

It’s been fun. Hope everyone enjoyed this blog. Keep the conversation going. What do you think will be the final outcome? Do the Tigers still have a shot?

Great game overall. Both teams had 10 hits, but in the end, it was the wild pitch in the third inning that allowed Napoli to score that ended up deciding the game.

Iglesias pops up to end the game. Red Sox win Game 5, 4-3.

Jackson flies out to center. Tigers are down to their final out.

Pena flies out to left. Good thing Gomes was there…Drew and Ellsbury weren’t going to get it.

Interesting thought here:

Pedroia lifts a fly out to center to end the inning. Down to three outs for the Tigers. Can Uehara finish the deal.

Victorino strikes out for the second out of the inning. Ball was outside and low. Now, it’s up to Pedroia.

Ellsbury takes second with no throw. Runners on second and third with one out.

Ellsbury intentionally walked. Victorino up. Squeeze perhaps?

Ross with a perfect bunt. With Miggy making the play on the bunt, nobody covers third and Middlebrooks gets there.

May be some controversy here when Pena tried to spin around for the tag and he hit the umpire.

Bogaerts walks to lead off the inning. Will Middlebrooks on to run for Bogaerts.

Strikeout ends the inning for the Tigers. We go to the ninth inning.

Make that 11 of 17. Peralta strikes out. It’s his own fault. He swung at ball four when the count was 3-1.

Uehara has struck out 10 of 16 batters this year that have gone to a 3-2 count against him.

Uehara has five four-out saves this year, and one five-out save this year, according to FOX commentators.

Koji Uehara coming into pitch to get the final five outs. Smart move? Discuss in the comments.

Martinez grounds out to first for the first out of the inning. Tigers have five outs left to play with.

Iglesias makes another outstanding play to for the third out of the inning. Think the Red Sox are regretting giving him up to get Jake Peavy?

Difference in the game right now is the two-out wild pitch Napoli scored on in the third inning.

Gomes grounds out for the second out of the inning.

Napoli strikes out for the first out of the inning. Old Mo is going in the other direction now.
